Much like the recent storm tore through the north-west the prior day, the home side overwhelmed United away at the their home ground. It was a convincing 3-0 win for the City coach's side owing to goals from Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a display that firmly established their title credentials as they reinforced their place at the WSL pinnacle.

Successive Setbacks for United

This scoreline signalled back-to-back WSL setbacks for Skinner's side for the first time since May 2024, placing them a sizable gap off the top team with their title hopes severely dented.

The Red Devils' ability to juggle league and European soccer with a small squad has been a hotly discussed topic since they qualified for the Champions League. Looking at the calendar, it always appeared this was the week that would truly test this ability. Unfortunately for the away side, they seemed fatigued throughout, the historic win against PSG clearly having taken a toll.

Team Changes

Skinner had sought to make changes with a handful of changes. Toone, Elisabeth Terland, Janssen and Leah Galton all brought vigor, although the exclusion of the in-form Melvine Malard to the substitutes raised a few eyebrows.
